....I'm considering switching to UKOnline (any comments, good or bad,
welcomed on this), but I've been told that they block ports 8080, 80 and 3128. I use Shareaza and occasionally Kazaa, and I'd be taking out a subscription to Giganews (again, any comments welcomed) to download a couple of Gigs of binaries a month. Would these be blocked? -- Hugo Nebula "If no-one on the internet wants a piece of this, just how far from the pack have you strayed?" Hugo Nebula |

From previous answers on here I believe it's only servers they block on those ports, a quick call to them should confirm. Be aware that being an LLU provider there is more that can go wrong in the migration process as physical wires have to be swapped over to their equipment. My migration to them ran into problems and I have been w/o BB for the last ten days. There has been a lot of wasted time chasing red herrings eg. why are you testing the line to my house which was running balls out at 2M 'til the wires were snipped on migration day, very frustrating. -- fred Plusnet - I hope you like vanilla |

Those blocked ports don't affect P2P or usenet. I transferred over to UKOnline's 8Mbps service from PlusNet in May. It only took a total of 10 days and probably had less than an hour's downtime - I was at work when the migration was completed and all I had to do was plug in my new username and password into my router. -- Phil http://www.philipchung.co.uk/ |
