I run a caching nameserver on a system at home.

It is configured to forward queries on to my ISP caching name servers (Where
they forward to, I don't care, as long as they don't send it back to me). As
per usual practice, there are two nameservers, so if one starts to follow the
way of the pear, the other will pick up the load.

However, as a general backup, I tend to use 4.2.2.1, 4.2.2.2, and 4.2.2.3 (which
are nice and easy to remember in a pinch)

Curiously, one ISP, the name of which escapes me, once told me that it did not
publish the IP addresses of it's DNS servers, only their host names, on the
basis that 'they are dynamic addresses and will change'. I beleive the same
company ran all of it's services on WinNT 4. I still cannot quite fathom the
level of chronic stupidity that such a situation suggests.

You mean like how do you find the new address if your DNS source has moved?
Are you sure they were not joking, or that it was not a test to see if you
knew what you are talking about?
