Assuming the recently announced trials are successful, does any one know
what "and a full commercial launch across the UK is pencilled in for Spring 2006" actually means? Does it mean that the roll out starts in the spring and if so have we any idea how long it will take to get to all exchanges? Or does it mean that all ADSL enabled exchanges will support up to 8MB before next summer? -- John jelv |

That a big enough clue? |

How long ago did they announce SDL and how many exchanges have got that? Someone is trying to tell me that they've done a lot of preparation work while doing the £5 upgrades to 2MB and they don't have to do much more than flick a switch - I'm not convinced! -- John |

Believe it or not SDSL is actually being rolled out but due to the pricing policy there aren't that many takers. The '£5' upgrades required little if any work at the exchanges (most of the hold ups are/were due to the way the ISPs organised it), but they are at the moment upgrading ADSL equipment in the exchanges to facilitate better monitoring of each individual circuit which is part of the process for the MAXDSL rollout... |

Now that will depend on which way the wind is blowing & whether the accountants got laid or not. In all honesty I don't think anyone can give a realistic, ballpark figure. Having said the powers that be are getting more & more conscious about high speed broadband, even heard it stated that in the near future all voice calls will be VOIP, so you never know......& that's the problem... |

It seems more like systems, procedures and fine tuning of the way 8M will operate is the reason for the extended testing phase, rather than waiting for exchange hardware. I'm only about 300m from the exchange and my stats are exceptionally good so I'm hopeful that I'll get the full 8M if and when it arrives. Stephen |
