Run your own Treewalk DNS server, it's free and it works:

I assume you're running Windows of some sort ;-)

Thanks for the reply - I found the problem. My router was no longer passing
the DNS address to XP - I don't know why it suddenly decided not to. Once I
manually put the DNS address in, it started working.

The software looks interesting though. How much HDD / memory does it use
up? And how does it find the IP if my ISPs DNS is not there to teach it?

normally through a Hints file that contains the root server
