I have a linksys WAG54G wireless-G ADSL gateway with a linksys WUSB54G
USB wireless network adapter. Initially the wireless adapter was connected to a USB 1.0 port since that was all there was on the PC. Since I am soon to receive a 2MB ADSL account, I currently only have dialup, I bought a USB 2.0 4 port PCI card and thereby is the problem. With the wireless adapter pluged into the USB 1.0 port, the status of the wireless network shows a speed of 54Mbps, but connect it to the USB2.0 port and the speed drops to 1.0Mbps. I expected the speed to increase not decrease. The speed i am reading is shown on the wireless icon in the system tray and also shown on the gateway status itself. I loaded the software & drivers before the adaptor was plugged in, so the software didn't know whether it was going to be connected to 1.0 or 2.0. Any Ideas what is going wrong, or do I have to set something else up. Ian ian_sutherland_coillebhar@hotmail.co.uk |

I this sounds like an interference issue, if the signal strength is so weak that it falls all the way back to 1 Mbps. Does it show sig strength on the utility or systray icon ? try it on a short (or maybe long) USB extension lead. The signal strength is good if the gateway is next to the adapter but
still shows 1Mbps. BUT.. I disabled the 4 on board USB 1.0 ports and now the 4 off 2.0 ports also show 54Mbps. Apart from that, when connected to one of the 2.0 ports, I get intermittant disconnections & immediate reconnections showed by the "youve disconnected a USB device before stopping it first" window. The USB 2.0 card I have is made by Safecom, and because of the trouble I'm having, I'll return it for an alternative. |
