Hi.
Has anyone here used this line speed test utility? If so, what's the general opinion of it? My NB1300+4 reports my connection speeds as 890/6100 whereas the TCP/IQ utility reports 630/4100. Is TCP/IQ known for giving misleading readings at all? Thanks. Spammy Sammy |

Maybe a daft q, but what's the difference between connection speed and throughput? |

The real throughput is what you can actually achieve based on packet overheads, retransmissions due to errors or timeouts, and any throttling in place past the exchange connection point. Dan |

TCP/IQ show 532/343. The problem with any speed test is that it doesn't take into account any bottlenecks between your PC and the testing site. Looking at my own figures I'd say there's a bottleneck somewhere, and a traceroute reveals a round trip of 121ms to www.tcpiq.com compared to only 15ms to www.adslguide.org.uk , with the spike to tcpip.com in the link between Easynet and Global Crossing.
