Hi all,
Lucky me - I'm about to move into a house served by both of the big LLU providers! I like the idea of a nice fast connection, with highlimits, so I'm thinking of going with one or the other. ntl is also available but nope. Never again. I don't suppose that anyone has had any direct experience with each, but does anyone recommend one? UK Online is the most tempting currently, since Bulldog make you switch to their phone package too. I want the flexibility of BT (aka 1899 and the like), as well as the possibility if it does all go tits up to easily move. Do both provide an modem with an Ethernet connection? Anyone got any thoughts? Also, lay down your referral codes if you have any... *watches as thread descends into a madhouse* Thanks a lot! Martin Mad Marty |

I'm with UK Online 8meg package. Bloody good, don't get quite an 8 meg
connection, but I am about 2 miles from the exchange, and the router is plugged into an extension in the house, but I still connect at 7meg. Get sustained download rates of about 500-600 KB/s from reliable servers. Never had any serious problems, occasional drop-outs, but it's usually sorted pretty quick. If you do sign up, my user name is (E-Mail Removed), use that and we both get a free month ![]() Pete. I have just noticed however that not only do they have a £50 connection charge, but also charge for your ADSL hardware. Bulldog charge £1 connection and give £12 off a month for 6 months, but still charge for the modem. Is this normal? Bulldog is much cheaper over the first six months... Aren't their any free connection offers? The trouble is that I can charge the monthly fee on expenses - but not the connection... :| I might go with them any way... *Googles for an offer or two* Martin |

When I signed up with them March 04, it took 6 months to get connected. In the meantime, the swap over from BT was set and I got disconnected. 3 weeks later and the shakes setting in, I finally get told "we are no longer offering the "primetime" product you ordered. I eventually agree to pay £15 a month more for a similar (2mb) but alltime connection (since I couldnt be without any longer. It was agreed that for compensation, I would get 2 months free at the end on my year. In the meantime, I contacted them in March to look to upgrade. "It can be done transparently" they claimed. So transparent, they have ignored me! This week, I notice they have charged me twice (ie £80 in one month) - and was going to call. 3 Days ago they contact me and tell me its my lucky day, cos they are offering me an upgrade free! Except, this offer was dearer than the one I signed for. (6 months @ £20 for the ADSL instead of 12) I tell the guy the whole sorry story and he tells me someone will call me back shortly to discuss the over payment and teh fact "they have no record of any 2 months free". Oh, and when I told him they were also overcharging me, as the product I am on is now £30 vice £40, he tells me I have to email. Whats the point - they have NEVER answered one email I have sent them in the past. You can guess, no one has bothered to get back. The guy I spoke to, tells me his name (when I asked for it) was Stan Baldwin. Hmmm I wonder! Luckily, I have an email from them regarding the 2 months - so if they do try to charge - and also do not refund the double payment - they will be in court. Like I say, they are no differnt to "NTL Never Trust Liars", so if you do go ahead, be it on your head. I could offer my referral details - but I wouldnt sleep at night knowing I had stiched someone up! -- www.senaction.com |

I was hoping that it was down to non-LLU issues, but obviously not. My current thought is for Freedom2Surf. I noticed that they are reselling EasyNet/UK Online's connection, and they seemingly have a good reputation. Crunch day comes on Wednesday when the phone line is hopefully hooked up. Thanks for your detailed warning post - I don't want to go down that road again. Martin |
