It is still in existance, yes.

However, the previously unofficial ability for non BTYahoo / Openworld
customers to use the server (i.e. if they were BT Broadband) has now
(apparently) been removed.

This (iirc) is solvable by creating a BTY PAYG account, then using it's
username / password for authenticated SMTP. It's more of a kludge than a
solution though, however BT were said to be promising some kind of SMTP
server for BTBB people (probably just a CNAME to the Yahoo provided carp
with unauthenticated access being allowed).

Whether that'll materialise or not is another matter!

Clara have a Mail and News package for, IIRC, a tenner a year for
BTBroadband (or other access-only ISPs)
