Default Need another PC in the network running to access internet

Can you help me please?

I have 4 PCs (3 x Win98, 1 x XP) all using a Conexant ADSL
Router. On the whole everything works well. However we
have one snag:
- 3 PCs have no problems at all
- My PC (a laptop running Win98), on initial boot up, is
not able to access the web unless one of the other PCs is
already up and running. My PC is an "ex business network"
machine.
Have you any ideas what causes my problem please?

Many thanks
Brian Hudson

sounds like that laptop was set up to share a connection with another
computer , not from the router.

simple to try(without going to deep in troubleshooting)
...remove all networking components , clients ,protocols etc. then
reinstall the nic and setup again.

Haggis has a good idea, but if this is the case you don't need to do all that
removing and reinstalling of stuff. Just look in your network properties for
the entry of tcp/ip for the network card. Make sure that IP address is
"optain an IP address automatically". Wins is "use dhcp for wins",
set the gateway to the address of your router, likely 192.168.1.1
set dns configuration to "disable dns" and all the rest of the settings are
likely to be the same. Reboot and see what happens.
