Can I run 2 NICs on one PC with Win98?

I've just moved from Dial-up to ADSL and running the ADSL Modem
(D-Link DSL-302G) through a USB Port.

For 3 yrs now I've been running a small LAN to my wife's PC, using
NetBEUI protocol for File Sharing only (as she does not require
Internet Access).
Concurrently, I was running Dial-up on TCP/IP Protocol.

My OS is Win98SE and hers is Win95OSR2.

Running the ADSL modem through the USB Port puts a heavy load on my PC
and I've been advised to run the ADSL Modem through an Ethernet NIC.

My question is can Win98 support a 2nd NIC to run the ADSL modem? Y/N?
If Y, what configurations do I use?

If N, should I interpose a HUB or some other device and what steps do
I need to follow to achieve the optimum setup?

The simplest solution would be to get a router for your modem and home
network. Even the most basic routers handle broadband Internet access
easily, and would allow you to stick with just one NIC card.

But yes, you could add a second NIC to the system and configure it to use
the broadband Internet connection.

If I get a router, would I still be able to run TCP/IP for the ADSL
modem and NETBEUI for file sharing to her PC?

Absolutely. You'd simply unbind the TCP/IP protocol from File and Printer
sharing, leaving NetBEUI bound to it as it is now if you are currently using
NetBEUI for your network.
