Default win 98 - sharing not available on menu

I've got a wireless network set up connecting a desktop
(actually a wired connection) running win 98 and a second
desktop running XP. Although they both can connect to the
internet through the network with no problem I cannot get
past the 1st step in sharing files and my printer
(connected to the win98 PC). I followed directions to
settings->control panel->network - configuration tab - and
enabled file and printer sharing. I went to TCP/IP
properties - bindings tab - enabled File and printer
sharing for Microsoft networks. When I then go to
explorer, right-click on any folder I don't have sharing
as an option. Anyone??

Reboot and go back to Control Panel | Network. Make sure that "File
and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks" appears in the list of
network components. Click the File and Print Sharing button and make
sure that both boxes are checked. If that requires changing any
settings, reboot again.

If sharing still isn't available, look for and delete these registry
keys:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Network\NoFileSharingControl

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Policies\Network\NoFileSharing

Thanks Steve,
I checked things as you advised... File and Printer
sharing for Microsoft Networks is in the list and the two
checkboxes for file sharing and printer sharing are
checked. I looked in the two registry paths that you
mentioned... the only thing that appears in either, aside
from Default is HideSharePwds 01 00 00 00 . I rebooted and
still no sign of the Sharing option available on the menu
when I right-click any folder.

Still hoping someone has more suggestions.

Are you trying to share the entire drive first? Don't know if that's
necessary, and I don't have a Win98 box here to test, but it's worth a
try...

I'd be happy to share at any level but I never have the
sharing option available as a menu choice. I just re-
installed File and printer sharing for Microsoft Networks
but that didn't help either.
