DNS

have a win98se system that I cannot browse internet.
DNS is not working. I can browse local network.
I can ping netbios name computers. But if I try to ping
a web address ie www.microsoft.com I get Unknown host.
I can ping the ip address of www.microsoft.com.
All other pc's on the same network work fine. So it's
limited to this pc. I've cleared networking and
reinstalled. tried different nic. deleted tcpip files and
reinstalled. In IE6 if I select automatically detect
settings, then start IE it does not go through the
detection, just gives the dns error page immediately.
