Default Is Tesco ADSL any good yet?

Hi,

Have Tesco sorted out their problems with their ADSL service yet?

I know somebody who wants to sign up with them, it's an easy option
changing over from a dialup account.

I have warned about the teething problems they have had, is it getting
better?

I have advised them to consider looking elsewhere.

So are there any happy Tesco broadband users out there?

See my posts of the last few days.
I'm now aware my problems are with my 6 year old spec. computer.
So Tesco are OK in my book.
I upgraded from Tesco.net Anytime to thier broadband.

PS Anytime was I think subcontracted to NTL, I do not know if Tesco partner
is still NTL or if BT as a BT line is essential.

This really is a nonsense unless you are using a CPU-intensive internal
or USB modem.

I use a normal Ethernet router quite happily, with all the traffic
passing through a PI/233 and being processed largely by a PII/333. And
I'm a fairly demanding user.

The guy has a USB modem, not much RAM, and a 4GB (therefore slow) hard
disk. The complaint was of no great speed increase in web browsing
compared to dial-up - which is not that surprising when you consider how
slow his browser is likely to be on his old hardware.

I suspect your boxes are not trying to deal with a high maintenance USB
device and run Internet Explorer whilst swapping furiously to a slow
hard disk.

In which case it would be cheaper and easier to buy a router. That was
really my point (not very well made).

Indeed. In fact, they don't even have to deal with running bloated M$
software...

As not many replies, I assume that there aren't any.

Doesn't matter now anyway as the person has signed up to NDO instead,
wise man.

Sorry to reply to my post again but I have just noticed I'm not getting
all the posts, just had a look on Google groups.

Adding a128mb DIMM to my 64mb PC made quite a difference when multiple Web pages
are openned and OE is running.
