It is an impossibility to get through to the Wanadoo helpline and
emails to Customer Service get the most banal and unhelpful responses. I reckon there is a better chance of a sensible and helpful reply in this group. I have only come into a BB area as a result of the recent extension as I live some distance from my exchange. Wanadoo has said my line is activated and I have now used permutations of two different computers and two different modems ( the freebie Speedtouch and a Zoom 5506 internal PCI) to try to connect. I have tried the PC's on an extension and I have tried one plugged directly into the master telephone socket and the one behind the detachable faceplate. The connections are made through a micro splitter and the only telephone presently connected is through another microfilter. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the software and hardware until I am blue in the face. Both modems attempt to connect, fail and then immediately begin a countdown to a retry. The Speedtouch diagnostics show this as test error 28 and states there is no dialling tone. This suggests to me that there are difficulties with the BT line. I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm that my diagnosis is the likely one and then give me advice on how to get BT to check without them referring me back to Wanadoo. TIA Dennis Reynolds -- If you are expectng me to reply and do not get one within three days blame my spam trap and email me again. Dennis Reynolds |

Can you make calls on the telephone? If not, the actual line is faulty. report to BT faults. If it does work, the voice part of the line is working and BT are fulfilling their contract with you. The ADSL part is a contract between BT and WEanadoo, so only Wanadoo can chase it up. You must chase Wanadoo to chase BT. Sorry, but that's how it works. This is why you were perhaps unwise to choose Wanadoo, and not a slightly more well respected ISP. (ducks) -- Bob Eager begin a new life...dump Windows! |

I went through the same scenario but my ISP was Eclipse. They
reported the "fault" to BT and when I did not hear anything from BT were able to access BT's Broadband engineer's diary and make an appointment direct for him to visit. Having said that, the connection still failed because of distance from the exchange. I happen to think that a lot more people live beyond the new "stretched" ADSL limits than the publicity would have one believe. The BT engineer will repeat the test with his kit, thereby eliminating your kit from the equation. You could always request this by email/fax/letter tto the ISP if the phones are too congested.
