Have you cleared the Temporary Internet Cache Folder?

Tesco Broadband at what speed ~128kb/s ?
How old is your computer and how big is the hard drive?

You should see a MAJOR difference going from 56k to even 128kb/s

Change your Internet Explorer settings ..
Tools > Internet Options
Temp Internet Files > Click Settings > Set for around 100MB max
Close the window by clicking ok
Now click Delete files (this will clear out temporary internet files)

After you've done that download Firefox Browser and forget IE as it's a
bloated pile of M$ ....
Nah better not as this will just eat up more space on your PC ;-)

Use.netuser.de answered one of the ways to do it.

I'm not on 98 myself but from memory if you click on My Computer the
right click on the C: drive, go to Properties and then 'Clean Up'

It is worth having Temp, Temporary Internet Files and Recycle Bin
ticked.

If you do this take a note of the size of the Temp Internet Files
which is shown when you view the 'clean up' option.

Guessing that you are using a USB ADSL modem, that might be part of the
problem (along with how much spare RAM you have). I had a USB modem (or
USB ISDN, sorry, it was years ago) which had a note that it would likely
be impossible to use things like Real Player with the USB unit - so much
CPU time dedicated to making the USB side work it was dragging anything
else down to a crawl. Just one possibility. I'd recommend using some
ADSL router and a network card (and newer PCs mostly come with 10/100
networking as standard). While a router is often expected for multi-
PC environments, they have a number of advantages over USB or even PCI
and are no longer massively expensive. Get yourself one for Christmas!

First thanks to you and all others who have replied.

Will give the data you ask for, hope answers others too.

Status gives 576,000 bps.

IBM bought 1998, HD 4GB

AMD K^0266MMX

SDRAM was 48 now 96

Have followed your setting advice was set at 20mb now at 100mb, have done
the deletion.

BT have just rung and have checked the line and that is working ok.

Whilst others may be able to advise you on how to get your existing
box working, it's spec. is only marginally above that needed for ASDL,
set out at:
http://www.tesco.net/help_pages/broa...m#requirements

To take full advantage of ADSL it's time for a serious upgrade or new
computer, I think.
