Do Netgear favour a more common IP for their routers? I have been asked to configure one for someone who is unable to access it via his browser interface, and i have no idea what the IP of the thing is. Is there a way of finding out via a utility of something? Tx2 |

Hook it up with a crossover cable to a PC running Ethereal and it will (probably) send out ARP or DHCP stuff which you can see the IP in. I've done it a few times with Jetdirects now and it works great. |

Most likely the 192.168.0.0/16 range for a Netgear box. -- Iain A F Fleming |

GetIf is a great (free) SNMP utility that also includes an IP Discovery window. (see http://www.wtcs.org/snmp4tpc/getif.htm). It will send out pings very rapidly on your local LAN (you can configure the number of pings and the timeout values), so you should be able to find out fairly quickly what IP address your Netgear router is (as long as it hasn't been set up with a "non-private" address.
