Hi, I ordered ADSL (BT Openworld ISP). Our exchange isn't upgraded until
10.3.04, but I was told as long as I ordered it at least a month before we'd be activated on the same date as the exchange goes live. Anyway, they have said I won't get activated until 26.3.04, is this usual? and can the date be brought forward? Cheers Pete. -- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- --------------------------------------------------- Now, I'm not into conspiracy therois, except ones that are true or involve dentists (Michael Moore, 2003) Peter Hewitt-Dutton |

Afraid whoever told you that was wrong... > Anyway, they have said I won't get activated until 26.3.04, is this usual? > and can the date be brought forward? Lines are normally activated within 5/10 days after an exchange has gone live - therefore its quite possible/probable BT Wholesale will do it earlier. However, they won't tell you its done before your official date (nor will they change the date) You can just plug in your modem earlier and see if it works.. (try around the 15/17th) The only exception is if they are upgrading Home Highway/ISDN lines as they then need to physically visit to upgrade your line - in which case they tend to stick to the specified date, though its not unknown for a BT engineer to telephone/visit you earlier to try and upgrade the line if they are free but its a lot rarer. Zen were quicker, a few days only. It also appeared that ordering on or after the RFS date was as quick as pre-ordering, depending on ISP. At least one entered the pre-orders from a pile of paper into their online system :-( If its ISDN or Highway or there's a DACS line it takes longer, and I guess they can't do everyone on the first day. Thanks for your help. I can confirm that we do just have a normal phone
line, no ISDN, HH, or DACS (I made BT take the DACS off our line a few years ago). Do we get notification on line test stuff? I obvioulsly don't want to buy a router / modem until the line test is passed, do they do that before the exchange is enabled? Thanks. Pete. No - no notification of passing your line test.. though you could try ringing the BT Openworld/Yahoo Order desk a couple of days after the RFS and asking them if they have been informed by BT Wholesale. They will test your line after the exchange has been enabled - they can't do it before. If you don't have the equipment plugged into see if you have been enabled early, its also possible to tell via: a) http://www.bt.com/broadband The bottom of the pop-up box when you check your number will the show: "Note: If you have an ISDN or Home Highway service connected to this number and you wish to purchase Broadband ADSL, then the current service will have to be converted to a standard PSTN line. Provided the line and exchange support ADSL, your service provider may be able to arrange the conversion for you. If you have an existing Broadband ADSL service and wish to change Service providers then please contact both your new and existing Service Provider to have this service transferred." b) By going to https://www.cs-server1.bt.com/hhway-...UM=...&TELNUM=... Replacing the 1st ... with your BT Account number and the second one with your telephone number - this shows the progress of all current orders against your phone number. However, after your line has been enabled it can take BT's systems a couple of days to register this fact. As I said earlier new lines are normally enabled within 5/7 days - regardless of the date your ISP will have given you.. Regards Sunil |

The line is only physically tested on site in extreme cases of doubt, if you are in the system as "Green" it passes through easily. Phil |

I rang BT Broadband support line today, and they told me that our line had
been tested, and passed it. They said all was ok, and it safe to go out and buy a router. They won't have any line results this early.. Regards Sunil |

hmm, strange. They seemed pretty sure it'd been done.
