Where is your network card getting its address from? Do you have a router
or other device to serve up IP addresses on your network? If so, the
192.168.?.? address may well be correct - so long as it is not 192.168.0.1
or whatever address your router is occupying.

technically speaking, the computer has never been
connected to a router. At one time the Internet
Connection Sharing was "installed", then almost
immediately uninstalled. The only network that had been
connected was 3 other PCs directly connected to each
other ... they are no longer connected. There never was an
actual ICS, but it seems as thought the OS doesn't want to
let go of that idea, and configures the NIC accordingly.

This has all come to light because of my attempts to use
the NIC to connect to a cable modem, but Motorola's system
requirements check doesn't "see" the NIC, whereas, all
other system checks do.
