Hi Liz,
It would be helpful if you told us what domain you have (Windows 2000, Windows 2003, NT domain) and what client you have problem with. I will take that you have Windows 2003 domain and Windows XP is your client. First make sure that your Windows XP client DNS configuration (under TCP/IP) is pointing to your active directory DNS (probably your domain controller server). Clients look for domain controllers by using DNS. If your DNS is pointing to e.g. your ISP it will not be able to find any information about your domain and your client's won't be able to join it. If this doesn't help, be more specific what your error is and provide more details about your network environment.
