Hi:
*** Sorry if I posted to wrong bulletin board *** Maybe I'm asking too much because some experts told me that this is not possible. So I just post my little wish here again to see if this is really a mission of impossible. What my wish is to set up a small SOHO network with Windows 2000 Server, or Windows 2003 Server, or maybe even Windows 2003 Small Business Server. This network would be based on ADSL connection and one statistic IP will be given by ISP. Other hardware includes an ADSL modem and two wireless routers (11.g). Here is my two dreamed scenarios for the network. (1) When the server is up and running - all client systems can use the server as DNS, file server, database server, print server, Web server, and so on as a regular "Client/Server architecture". And all client system can access Internet - maybe or maybe not through the server. Ideally, it is better to go through the server and with wireless connection. (2) When the server is down - all client system can also access Internet with wireless connection without going through the server. Why would I need this? Because in this area, power supply is not very stable, and for other reasons too, the server needs to shut down at the night. But for other clients still need Internet connection, I wish to have the ability to use wireless to access Internet also. I've consulted several technical friends, and they thought it would be not possible. It would be either (1) or (2), which means a dedicated server serves as the gateway and has to be up all the time. Or, it has to be more like a workgroup for which using router as the gateway, but then the server is no long the server especially as DNS or Web server. So is it true that it has to be (1) or (2)? If it's not, which of the above mentioned server OS is the best for managing this type of tasks - Windows 2000 server, Windows 2003 Standard or other, or Windows 2003 Small Business Server? Do I need any other hardware?? If you can point me to right books or sites where I can find solutions, it would be highly appreciated also. THANKS!!!!!! xfile |

Get yourself a broadband router to plug the pc's into for the LAN *and*
internet connection. Whether you then create a domain or workgroup on the LAN matters not. -- Regards, Dave Patrick ....Please no email replies - reply in newsgroup. Hi:
Thanks for your kind reply. That seems work except what if I need to use wireless? Should I use the router (which does have the function) as the DNS and DHCP server? And I do want to have a domain, so can is that still possible with your suggestion? Many thanks!!!!
