had a system that used PPOE to access internet through a dsl modem (alcatel)
worked fine installed a router to network 2 other win98 machines DLINK D614+ plus a laptop by wireless those machines all work fine on internet router handles dhcp, connects to internet through the modem on the win98 machine to which modem attached before, no internet -has network adaptor with tcp/ip, uses dhcp and gets IP address, default gateway assigned by router router address 192.168.0.1 internet connection sharing is NOT installed PPPOE was by Enternet 300, which was uninstalled the troubled win98 machine can -ping router -access other machines on LAN, can see them in network neighbourhood -ping computers with class A and B network addresses (by inputting ip addresses, not names) -cannot ping the DNS server on the ISP which is a 207.x.x.x address -cannot get internet addresses resolved -routing table (route print) is identical (except for different IP address for adaptor) as on the machines that can access the internet have tried giving it DNS server of ISP in TCP/IP setup but that did not work any ideas appreciated Paul Lantz |

not sure that I would need that since the connection to the internet via the
modem goes through the router, the other computers do not have PPPOE software, the router takes care of that what I wonder if having this machine communicate directly with the modem before resulted in some settings that cause problems now "Tomasz Wajde" <(E-Mail Removed)> wrote in message news:(E-Mail Removed)... > You need PPPoE software. > Just look here > http://www.raspppoe.com/ > Download & Install & Have Fun!!! > > Tomasz Wajde > > Użytkownik "Paul Lantz" <(E-Mail Removed)> napisał w wiadomo¶ci > news:exX#(E-Mail Removed)... > > had a system that used PPOE to access internet through a dsl modem > (alcatel) > > worked fine > > installed a router to network 2 other win98 machines DLINK D614+ plus a > > laptop by wireless > > those machines all work fine on internet > > router handles dhcp, connects to internet through the modem > > on the win98 machine to which modem attached before, no internet > > -has network adaptor with tcp/ip, uses dhcp and gets IP address, default > > gateway assigned by router > > router address 192.168.0.1 > > internet connection sharing is NOT installed > > PPPOE was by Enternet 300, which was uninstalled > > the troubled win98 machine can > > -ping router > > -access other machines on LAN, can see them in network neighbourhood > > -ping computers with class A and B network addresses (by inputting ip > > addresses, not names) > > -cannot ping the DNS server on the ISP which is a 207.x.x.x address > > -cannot get internet addresses resolved > > -routing table (route print) is identical (except for different IP address > > for adaptor) as on the machines that can access the internet > > > > have tried giving it DNS server of ISP in TCP/IP setup but that did not > work > > > > any ideas appreciated > > > > > > > > |
