With regard to the VPN/WINS problem I discussed in a post a couple of
days ago, I am now convinced that the problem is almost certainly that Win2K SP4 adds domain qualifiers to NetBios names before name resolution. Thus with normal h-mode search, or any other, the search defaults to DNS. So the bottom-line question seems to be this. Is there a registry setting that tells Windows to add domain qualifiers to ping and to winsock apps before starting name resolution and can it safely be changed so that the qualifiers are not added?
