Default Direct connection

I have two computers that are not hooked up in a network
and don't need to be. But one of them has about a gigabyte
of data that I need to move to the other computer. For
this I want to do a direct connection using an ethernet
cable. Both computers have an ethernet card, and I'm quite
sure I got the right kind of cable, a "cross cable." The
question is, WHAT NEXT? I've searched the Internet and
can't seem to figure it out.

This will only be a temporary connection. I'd like my
computers to be "back to normal" as much as possible after
the direct connection is severed (e.g. I'll turn file
sharing back off on both computers afterwards).

By the way, both computers have Win 98 Second Edition.

Thanks to whoever can help me with this!

Greg

Both have walkthroughs for this type of scenario.
