Default Computer Browser

I recently put 2 network adapters in my server and now
the computer browser service is showing nothing to
clients when browsing Entire Network. All clients are
running Windows XP Pro. How can I make the server force
itself to be the master browser and show everything in
the network again?

1. Don't put two nics in it if they are in the same subnet. If you need more
addresses on the same server, just apply multiple addresses to the same NIC.

2. Assuming #1 is not the case and you have two subnets, make sure that the
main NIC's priority doesn't get messed up. Go to Properties of "My Network
Places" and select Advanced from the menu at the top. Select "Advanced
Settings...". In the upper "Connections" box, make sure the original NIC is
at the top,..use the arrows on the right to set it.

3. Only one NIC should have a Default Gateway. You can have one Default
Gateway or you can have "None" but you should not have more than one,...that
is why it is called a *Default* Gateway All others are simply called
"Gateways" and are entered into the routing table either via RRAS Admin or
by a command prompt
(c:>\Route add -p <blah> <blah> <blah>)

You do NOT want to multihome your master browser. If you need two NICs in
this box, turn off the Computer Browser service and allow another box to
become the master browser.

It is also worth disabling Netbios over TCP/IP on the second NIC, so that
it is only "known" on the network by its primary IP address. If you are
running WINS, check that there are no "old" entries for the machine name
with the "wrong" IP address.

Ah! True. I usually even disable "Microsoft Networking" on the second Nic if
it is exposed to the Internet,...I pretty much just run TCP/IP on it and
nothing else.
