Ok ... you've all probably heard this question more than once, but I'm new
to the group, and to networking. I have a machine runnine 2000 Pro, and the other with 98SE. I'm not too sure what protocols I need in 98SE. I have two machines that are both running 2000 Pro working well, but this 98SE is giving me big ones. Can someone please advise me as to what the problems may be. Thank you in advance. Could it possibly have to do with a FAT 32 - NTFS issue ? Just a thought.

The only protocol you need for a home network is TCP/IP on each machine
connected to the network. If you could explain what "big ones" means, maybe we can help. -- Richard G. Thanks for responding Richard. "Big ones" that 98SE refers to big balls, as
in driving me crazy. I was told by a networker at a local computer shop that I need IPX/SPX, and NetBIOS on the 2000, and NetBUI on the 98SE. I also have TCP/IP, and Client for Microsoft networks installed on both. Both have the same workgroup name, and different computer names. Thanks, Humpty "Richard G. All you should have on your network, on any machine, is TCP/IP unless you
need the other protocols. In fact loading unneeded protocols on a 9x box is one of the surest ways to get your things "big", all right. :-) Try unloading all protocols from the Windows 98 box except for TCP/IP, then reboot the box and see what you can see. If the answer is still 'nothing' - try pinging one of the Windows 2000 boxes by name and by IP address. Which one succeeds, or do both? -- Richard G. Richard ... I have ZAP installed on the 2000 Pro machine, and nothing on the
