System lockup after using network for a few minutes

Recently installed ME system locks-up after doing any
networking for a few (3-5) minutes. (Power switch won't
turn off the ATX system.) This happens when using TCP-IP
protocol talking to the internet connection router, but
also happens using NETBEUI talking to an NT/4SP6A server.
System seems to be stable if not using networking.
Nothing else installed. Can't keep networking running
long enough to get any updates. (Memory leak? Works for
a while, then bombs.) Any ideas?

HW: ABIT BH6, PII-400, 3COM900 Combo NIC, Diamond Fire GL
1000 Pro video.

Found something in the KB about ME needing STACKS=9,256.
I haven't used that in anything since DOS5, and it wasn't
even necessary then. But now networking seems to work.

NOTE TO ALL!
Half a dozen friendly spammers tried to forward me their
mal-ware under the guise of the latest update. Sorry,
guys, that doesn't work. Note that if you post here,
spammers will retrieve your address and send you the
infection du jour.
