System Hangs at Startup when connect between ME and XP

I have my ME system networked with the XP system. The XP
system is the gateway for the internet still dial up.
When I reboot the ME system with the ethernet cable
plugged in the system hangs at the very end of the
startup. If I remove the ethernet cable the system comes
up fine. I then can plug the ethernet cable in and
everything works.

Any help would be appreciated.

I'd check for newer drivers for your network card.
