my suse linux 8.1 hangs with RTL8139 pci-lan-card
trying to bind IP to the card: 'ifup eth0'

'ip link' doesn't show eth0 but 'lo' and
something like '...@NONE'

'ip set eth0 ...' hangs too

can anyone help?

What module are you using, rtl8139 or 8139too, and have you tried the
opposite one? I am using RTL8139 based Dlink DFE-530TX+ in both SuSE 7.3
and 8.2 with 8139too (rtl8139 did not seem to work).

Does the IP have a name in /etc/hosts (maybe DNS delay)?

tried both modules, same result.
'lspci' shows my card
'lsmod' doesn't show 8139too or rtl8139
also removed every entry with ethx from modules.conf
and tried ifup 8139too -> hangs
i think there is NO driver in the kernel (2.4.xx) for my card?
