How can I deactivate or retrieve a system administrator's
password set by someone who have left the company?

I tried formatting the computer but it is not successful.

Also, what is the software that can control all the
computers at one time. all shutdown or on with a main
computer so that I do not have to manually on every one.

A little more specific, please.

I assume you mean a computer trying to log onto a Win2000 Server,
because if it is a stand-alone machine a format would certainly do the
trick. If that is the case, you need to change the Admin password on
the Server side, not the computer trying to logon to the server...and
if you don't have administrator rights it will be nearly impossible
without formating the Server. There are LINUX based boot-disks that
will hack into the Server and allow you to change the Administrator
password, but those can be extremely dangerous and render the system
completly unusable.

Please post back with some more specifics and maybe we can help.

I'm not changing the password for the server, but the
individual computers in the network using win 98SE.

One thing however is that i do not know if the computer's
passwords are generated by the server?can that be possible?

If the individual Win98 workstations are trying to log onto the server
using a name that is already defined on the server(such as
"Administrator"), you need to have the password for the account on the
server. Win98 has no built in security and no native method to
validate passwords and restrict access based on a correct or incorrect
password. To prove this, hit cancel when the network logon box
appears....you will be able to log on to the local Win98 machine but
you won't have network access.

You are going to need that Administrator password if you expect to log
onto your network as "Administrator".
