If this is an inane question please forgive me. I'm new to wireless. My
log on my d-link 624 shows a few instances of a SYN attack. The log also
shows that the "packets were dropped". I assume this means my setup caught
it and rejected the inquiry? 624 is set with mac filtering only allowing
certian addresses on the net and 128 WEP enabled.

If you've got WEP enabled, then it\'s likely that it's simply a false alarm.
Certain traffic patterns can look like SYN attacks.

Did it say anything about where they originated from? The most obvious
answer is that the SYN requests came on the WAN side on your router, and
not on the (W)LAN...
