Hi,

After signing up to ADSL broadband 6 weeks ago I also installed Sysgate
Personal Firewall after suffering with ZA for too long.

When connecting to the Net today I received the following log entry
which hasn't occured previously and was somewhat worrying to a novice
such as myself. As I always connect to broadband the same way this is
baffling to say the least.

"Application Hijacking has been detected
The application: C:\Program Files\Thomson\SpeedTouch USB\stdialup.exe
try to launch another application: C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\RNAAPP.EXE"

What is rnaapp.exe and why would Sygate just start to recognise this.
Is this anything to worry about?

Steve

rnapp.exe is a Windows\System file to do with dial-up. Runs when you start
to dial your modem. Resides in the C:\Windows\System directory in Win98SE.
If you have problems with Sygate detecting it, perhaps you can exclude it.

No. Its dial up networking that's all.

This is not a problem! Sygate has a checkbox setting that allows it to
check for apps that "hijack" other apps. It happens all the time, the
case in point being a modem running the dial up network progs. It's just
another level of user visibility that may help some and will scare the
shit out of others. It can be safely left unchecked in most cases.

Cheers guys. I have now unchecked this option so I shouldn't see it
again.

Still can't understand why it has only just alerted me this time when I
have been connecting to the internet the same way for the last 6 weeks.

Steve, I have rnaapp.exe blocked with an application rule and
have had no more problems with it. I leave the anti-application
hijacking feature enabled so I will know when a real hijacking
attempt occurs. This combination seems to work for me.
