Switching scenario

I have a question how servers should be networked.

I have about 5 servers that are used by the company. We also have 4 24-port
switches.

Is it better to have all 5 servers pluged into the same switch or shoud they
be spread out among the different switches?

Does it make any difference?

I have been comptemplating buying a new switch and putting them all on that
one switch.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Jasper

What job(s) are the server doing? Are they all running different jobs or
redundant jobs?
If you are trying for redundancy, then having all the servers on the same
switch can kind of ruin that idea in a hurry.

It doesn't really matter that much.

Since the backplane of the switch is much faster than the network it is
prefered that they be on the same switch if you are able to do it,...however
to actually have a situation exist where that actually matters and becomes a
factor is extremely, extremely rare. Most places do not have them all on
one switch either because the servers are not all in one location or they
have many more servers than they have ports on a single switch.

They are just our ERP server, File Server, Mail Server and 2 other misc
servers. We don't have any redundancy built into them because they are all
in one location and easily manageable if there is a switch failure.

Thanks,
Jasper
