Here's the setup:
I have two telephone lines (separate numbers), with a broadband
connection on both, through different ISPs.
One of the lines is longer to the exchange than the other , as a result
of which, so I'm told, the quality of the connection is pretty poor, as
indeed it is. The other one is rock solid and very reliable. I'm not
sure whether the poor reliability on the line is actually the fault of
the line itself, or of the ISP on that line (Sky)
Because of nuisance calls and faxes, I want to change the phone number
on the good line, which BT say they can action within 24 hours. The ISP
on that line tell me that what will then happen is that 7 days later
I'll lose my broadband facility on it as a result of a "PSTN cancel" (I
think). This will then take a further 7 days to reactivate (which will
cost) during which time I will have no connection at all on that line.
Given the unreliability of the Sky line, this is something I'd been
keen to avoid.
Does anyone have experience of this? Is it likely to happen as they
say, or is there something that can be done about it. The tech people
at my ISP have been known to be incorrect in the past, so I'm just
trying to find out if this is a likely scenario.
Thanks for any advice
