Hoping to switch from BT Broadband to O2 as it would make sense to do it now
as you get 3 months free (I have an iPhone so have O2 for that). I have
always been happy with BT but stayed on the 2MB package as I didn't want to
commit to another contract because of the cost. Now I could go to O2 and
checking my line I can expect up to 6MB download for more than half the
price of what I am paying BT! Has anyone else swapped to O2 and if so how
did it go, was the transition seamless? I notice on the lowest option you
get McAfee software for one machine, being as I don't want it would we be
able to put it on my husbands laptop. There will be 2 of us using the
wireless connection. Keep putting off doing it as I am worried about the
hassle but really need to sort this. I am a great believer in if it's not
broke don't fix it but I can't justify the extra expense.
Will it just be a matter of plugging the router in and off I go or am I
being a little naive?
Lynn

Hi Lynn, I did what you describe in March as my local exchange is LLU
enabled for O2. The process was seamless, with O2 customer service
pretty much perfect. I now have a consistent 8-10Mb connection for
£9.79/month instead of 6 Mb for £22.99/month.

The process is as near as makes no difference plug & play. I expect
that the McAfee could be used on your husband's laptop, especially as
he will also use your broadband connection.

Go for it, you won't regret it!

Sign up via Quidco and get £50 cashback on O2 standard, along with 3
months free.

There's a comparison between O2 and Be Packages here...

Thanks so much for that, it makes me feel much better about doing it. I
thought that being as I can only receive up to 6MB I would be wasting my
money paying for more which is why I thought I'd go for the standard at
£7.34 unless there is anything else I would benefit from.

Hi I tried to read the comparison but when I downloaded it (which appeared
to be a PDF file) I couldn't open it I was asked to choose an application.
Now I'm sure I've opened PDFs before.

I'm sure you must have.

You say it 'appears' to be a pdf file; does it have a .pdf suffix? If so
it should open in Preview. If not, do a 'get info' (highlight it and do
a Cmd-I) and in 'open with', find Preview.

Yes it definitely has a .pdf I have checked and I have numerous PDF
documents which open with Preview, very odd. Preview won't open it.

The *standard* app for opening pdfs is Adobe Reader.
Have you got that on your computer?
If not, download it for free at:
http://get.adobe.com/uk/reader/

If it still won't open, there must be a problem.

George

Have you tried dragging and dropping it onto Preview? If that doesn't
work, then as George Weston says try Adobe Acrobat Reader, but if
Preview doesn't accept it, it'd probably corrupted in some way.

Must be. I downloaded it and it opens fine in Preview.
