switching between wireless adator to ethernet cable

I have a MN 720 notebook adaptor and a MN 700 base
station. In order to install the recent critical update,
it says it can't be done using the wireless connection.
I have hooked up the cable to my network port and to the
base station but the install wizard doesn't see the
connection. I have taken out the wireless adaptor but
still no luck. I assume it's a setting problem but am
clueless how to fix it. Any help gladly accepted.
