Switch question

I have a cable modem feeding a Belkin wireless router. The router has
4 ports (one going to my main computer and another has a patch cord
for my laptop for large file transfers (faster).

Due to tranmission issues, I am thinking about running a hard line to
my basement wher I use the laptop most of the time. While I am at it,
I figure I might as wire some other rooms as well.

here is my question. If I want to wire a "few" rooms, I suspect I
need a switch. Can I run a line from the router to the switch and
then out from the switch to the other rooms? Should the switch be
accesible (maintenance) or can it be hidden in the attic where it
physically works best?

Thanks!

Certainly.

Most attics are not weather-tight and between winter and summer the humidity
and temperature will hit every extreme you can imagine. Of all those
possibilities, condensing humidity would be the worst.

If your attic fits in that model, I'd say it'd be better to find a closet
below that location in the attic you were thinking of using, and stick the
router on a high shelf...
