I have a D-link DSL G604T modem/router, and I'm very happy with the way
I can share my connection+ share my printer with my daughter! Now, the
one thing that bothers me- should you leave the modem/router switched
on, or should you switch the thing off at the end of the day? The case
of the modem/router gets slightly warm during prolonged use, and I was
wondering if this could damage the modem/router.

Mine (Netgear) stays on 24/7 without a hitch.

My router has been on now (barring a couple of powercuts and a couple of hours
when my consumer unit was being replaced) for almost three years solid now.

Routers are designed for continuous operation. It would probably need to be
too hot to touch, rather than just "slightly warm", before the temperature
would significantly reduce the life of the router.

Six of one half a dozen of the other. On the one hand routers are
designed to be left on 24/7/365, on the other hand if you're all tucked
up in bed does it matter if the router's switched off?

Have to say as someone "non electrical" it does freak me a bit how hot
these things seem to get, especially the power bricks - unplugged my
WAG54G today and I'm not joking it's bloody hot not warm to the touch!

cheers,
Paul

Since everyone is of a similar opinion (i.e. just leave it on) you could
always put it on a timer switch to turn it off when you know you will
definitely not be using it if you're that bothered - say 1am to 6am?
