Hello,
I am running a Server with Windows XP and a notebook with Windows 98 in
a LAN. The Server has a Laser printer (LaserJet 1100)connected to it
which I use as network printer for the notebook.
Everything works fine, except when the server is switched off and this
is - of course - to be expected.
In my network I cannot rely on the fact that the server is always
turned on and the two PCs are located on separate floors. When I print
from the notebook and the server is turned off, I get the message that
the network printer is not available and that the print job will be
saved in the local print queue on the notebook. At the same time the
notebook indicates that the printer is set to offline. Now I have to go
to the Server which is several stories away and turn it on. Then I go
back to the notebook and change the printer from offline to online and
the document is printed without any problem.
Now I am looking for a way to set the printer of the notebook from
offline to online directly from the server. This will save me the extra
trip back to the notebook and then again to the print server. Does
anybody have an idea how to achieve this (or do I have other options to
control from the Server the print job in the Spooler of the notebook)?
Thank you for any help.
Rolf
