The router can control 200 some computers using DHCP IP(s) or static IP(s).
You would plug a standalone switch or Hub into the router's UPlink port and
chain the devices together by using each one's UPlink port, which would all
be controlled by the router.

That would work great but there is no uplink port on this router. Can any of
the other 4 ports be used as uplink?

Any switch worth its salt will have an uplink port. Connect the switch
using this uplink port to any LAN port on your WRT54G.

Short answer is No. The (4) ports are set to connect PC's to them. But
maybe on the switch (on 1 of the ports) is a switch?? If so then your
all set. Flick the switch and it will connect to the router. Or if
both router and switch have no up-link ports or switches you then need
a cross-over cable.

All the ports on the WRT54G are autosensing and can be used as uplink or
regular ports with no crossover cable needed. No changing of a button
is required, either. Just plug it in and it'll work.

Thanks everyone, I picked up a d-link switch and just plugged it into one of
the 4 ports on the 54g and it works perfectly. There is no uplink port on
the router or the switch it seems it all just auto sences and off it goes.
Great!
