Hi, I have a Dlink 604+ and I have just bought a 8 port switch to cater for
my extra needs.
After reading the Instructions, nowhere does it mention about how to connect
the two together? do I connect to the router uplink port or one of the lan
sockets? also do I need normal Cat 5 cable or crossover for the link.

Help appreciated.

Cheers

Pete

just plug all your pc's into the normal lan ports on your switch and then a
standard cat5 cable from one of the lan ports on your switch to one of the
four ports on the back of the dsl-604 and away you go.

Just slinging a length of cable won't harm anything, but there are
combinations of switches for which it doesn't work: auto-crossover is a
fairly new thing.

A lot of modern kit will auto detect the type of cable you are using and
sort itself out. If that is not the case then the traditional way to do
it is either connect one LAN port on the new switch/hub to a LAN port on
the old one using a crossover lead, OR, connect a LAN port on the new
one to the uplink port on the old one with a straight through lead.

In other words all, the uplink port on a switch/hub normally does
transpose the wiring of one of the LAN ports so that you can use an
ordinary patch lead.
