suspect someone stealing access

Hello. I suspect someone is using my wireless connection. Where can I look
to see who has been using it either in windows xp or my router settings?

Well I would look in your DHCP logs, look at how many MAC address you have
there. You'll find that in your wireless router. Unless you believe they
have been attempting to gain access to your computer it's unlikely it would
record there intrusion, if they are simply using your wireless router to
gain access to the internet. Do you have security enabled on your wireless
router?

Yes, I do have security. I have noticed someone sitting in front of my home
for several days now...and put 2 and 2 together. Could you remind me again
how to get into my router?

For most routers you can get there by going to the IP address of your
gateway. So click | Start (menu) | Run... | CMD [enter] | ipconfig [enter]
use the IP address of the Default Gateway device. Take this number and enter
it into the address bar on Internet Explorer as http://192.168.0.1 and press
enter.

If you really think someone is accessing your wireless network you can use a
program like AirSnare to verify that...

With that said if your network is properly secured with WPA (preferred) or
WEP (128-bit minimum) then there will not be any intrusions...

Its possible you may need to manually copy-n-paste the encryption key to
your router like I do but that is not a big deal. Consult your wireless
router users guide for help configuring that.

Go out and ask the person what they are doing parked out there. If they are
stealing bandwidth they probably won't be back after you ask. They may be
up to something else, like checking out your neighbourhood for a possible
breakin or worse.

open your browser and enter its address like you would the name of a
website. the router's address will be something like 192.168.x.x.
your manual will have the address.

as for the person parked outside your home, call the local
constabulary and ask to have it checked out. it may be as you suspect
or it may be someone else with more sinister intentions.

bad advicce. call the police and have them check it out. if the
occupant is up to no good he probably has a record and many with
records have outstanding warrants. let the police check.
