In article <jbqtc.88$(E-Mail Removed)>, "theone1"

You can't officially download the Pro version, but it probably appears
on the binary groups and P2P networks.

You can't, not legally. SuSE do not make ISOs of anything except their
"Live Eval" run-from-CD version available. And please don't try to
download an illegal version, you can't tell what's been done to it.

What you can do is:

Download a small boot CD or floppy then install over FTP. See
http://www.suse.co.uk/uk/private/dow...nux/index.html which also
has a link to the Live Eval ISO;

If you know someone who has a set of SuSE CDs, you can borrow them and
copy them or give them some blank CDs to copy them onto for you. This is
perfectly legal as long as no money changes hands. In this case I
recommend the buying of a few beers.

That sentence does not make sense. If you mean "does it work well dual
booting with XP?" or "does it work well in a network with XP machines?"
the answer is yes in both cases. In the first case, install XP first, then
SuSE, it's almost always easier to install Windows and Linux in that order.

BTW http://www.linuxemporium.co.uk currently have the latest version (9.1)
at 41UKP (for the "upgrade" version, which is exactly the same as the
boxed set apart from the lack of manuals) and 9.0, which isn't that old,
for 30UKP.

I tried various SUSE version including SUSE 9 and found it somewhat
unstable depending on the hardware --- instead look at Mandrake 10
(avoid Mandrake 9.2 but Mandrake 9.1 is OK) or Fedora Core 1 or 2/Red
Hat instead these releases tend to contain more software admin & server
tools than the equivalent Suse version. All work well dual boot with
Windows.

Fedora Core is particularly easy to install for use as server on a
Windows network right out the box -- just be careful not to add too
many uneeded services and servers unless you really do need them.

Mandrake probably comes with more software than Fedora Core but I found
making it work as a Windows server took more fiddling than with Fedora.

I haven't sugested a Debian release only because Debian is trickier to
set up --- it can be done easily via an install from a Knoppix Cd but
this won't give you dual boot.

Slackware is a very basic Linux distribution which is best used by those
who know Linux quite well. It does not hold your hand at all. It is very
good if you know what you are doing, true.

The OP will probably be best off sticking to SuSE (or Fedora or Mandrake
if SuSE has problems).
