I just installed 10.1 SuSe on an old Dell. During the install, the NIC
was not configured properly. I had to run YaST afterwards to get the
NIC set up. Its a DEC Tulip compatable.
During the boot sequence, the network config properly picks up a DHCP
address, gateway, DNS and mask from my linksys. Immediately after
seeing this on the screen, the NIC responds to pings from another PC
behind the same linksys. Then as the boot sequence progresses, pings
stop and the connectivity is permanently lost. The pings stop working
at approximately when Gnome is coming up, but I really have no idea
what is starting in the background at the same time.
Once the boot completes, YaST seems to think everything is just fine
with the eth0. I have "1 of 1 configured routes for interface eth0 up".
Firewall is disabled.
I am not linux expert at all. I have no idea why the interface is not
talking. Any help would be appreciated.
