SUSE Linux Entreprise 8: which kernel for IBM ThinkCentre ?

I've installed SUSE Linux Enterprise 8 on an IBM ThinkCentre. It has
an Intel 82865G Graphics Adapter and an Intel PRO/100 VE Network
Connection both of which are not supported by the SLES 8 distro. I
can get decent graphics by choosing the VESA frame buffer during
installation, but I have no network connectivity. The installation
detected an IBM ethernet adapter for eth0 but during boot up the ifup
script fails. I'm guessing that I need to upgrade the kernel to get
support for the Intel PRO/100 VE Network Connection, but I don't know
which kernel version I need.

I'm hoping someone here can help. I've opened a support ticket with
SUSE but due to the time difference it takes 24 hours to get a
response and I'm need to get this server on line.

Thanks.

Hello Dean,
I hope I am faster than SuSE... :-)

I would suggest you to d/l the newest Knoppix that ships with kernel 2.4.22.
Try to get your NIC working with this latest kernel and Knoppix' well-known
hardware detection. As an alternative, try out a vanilla 2.4.22 /
2.6.0test10, or a kernel RPM from Hubert Mantel (/people/mantel/next/RPM/
on the FTP).

Hope this helps,
Hendric

Maybe you should configure eepro100 in /etc/modules.conf
Kernels:
I bet since 2.0 an eepro100 works.
