Have done quite a few G. searches on SuSE 9.1 portmapper failure.
Lots of posts, but no solutions.
So, has anybody actually figured out why 9.1 is so busted w/ respect to
portmapper? Has anybody figured out a fix?
9.0 did not have this problem. 9.1 has features I want, but I cannot mount a
NFS share. Is there a post w/ fixes'.
Thanks, FXS

SuSE 9.1 starts up the firewall as a default, and the default
configuration does not let NFS traffic through. Reconfigure
the firewall (I wrote my own script, but the GUI is fine, I
think) and things should work.

I was real surprised when the reports starting coming in, I
disabled the default firewall and put in my own script before
starting NFS in the first place.

I thought this was very plausible, but the short answer is no.
I thought the quickest way to test was to just remove SuSEfirewall2 from the
startup scripts ( used Yast2).
Re-booted. No firewall, but portmap failed.
It is so busted that I had to roll the server (& firewall) back to 9.0 from
9.1, and am now in the process of removing 9.1 from at least one of the
client machines.
I also found the Yast2 does a terrible job of configuring SuSEfirewall2.
Had to print the script, read it 3 times, and do it w/ an editor.
The server (9.0) now does what is expected, but I would like to rum 9.1 on
some of the laptops.
Thanks.

A further note to anyone who is trying to fix this: I have found that Yast2
can bust the syntax of scripts. I think it might be in one of the startup
scripts.
Cheers.
