Hi all,

I'm quite newb in Linux. I installed Mandrake 9.2 (works perfectly) and
installed drivers for my network card 3c940. Everything works fine I can
surf on the net except on the site of my provider, I also have a problem of
authentification when I try to connect to the
newsgroup ?? I don't understand why ? Does someone know how I can trace it
or where is the problem ? (My
provider is tiscali) Should I ask to them ?

When I'm doing a trace route, it gives me * * * when it should get to the
http site (traced in windows)

Thx for answering

Looney

Unfortunately you don't give much information about your
setup to help you. Eg. do you directly connect from the
Linux box via dial-up/ADSL modem or connect via a router?
Are you deploying the Linux box as a router for an internal
LAN, etc.

How does it exactly look like when you "can't surf the site
of your provider"? Does the site start loading and then stops?
Which exact error get you displayed in the browser?

You see, too few information. ;-)

Are you sure that there is indeed an authentification problem
when accessing the newsgroup server? Couldn't it be that you
can access the server but not retrieve any news?

Ok, sometimes you don't get news server access automatically
and you need to have it enable on demand. In this case you
need to check with your ISP.

The exact output of the traceroute command would have
been more helpful. :-)

Ciao, Horst
