Maybe OT but I'm looking for a good newsserver and was reading the supernews
(www.supernews.com) T&Cs.
One condition states, "DO NOT use automated unattended news posting and
retrieval programs with our service". Does this include setting up queues
with Xnews (or similar) to download?

Almost certainly not. It is likely to refer to automated programs
designed to send bulk news postings (Excessive Multi-Posting &
Excessive Cross-Posting, or Usenet "spam"), and/or to harvest
email addresses from Usenet servers for use in the transmission of
Unsolicited Bulk Email.

However, you may want to pose this question in
alt.binaries.news-server-comparison, since a number of the Supernews
administrators are regular posters there.

Seems too good to be true. They offer a pay-by-download option of $10 for
25Gbytes.

Well I finally have had enough of my ISP and their not-too-good news
service, and I just signed up for Astraweb's $10 for 25Gbytes (sort of pay
as you go). And I am now flogging my DSL connection for the stuff I wanted
but could never quite get.
Thanks for all of your comments.

Hi sorry to jump in like this, but I have a question about astraweb. On the
pay as you d/l price plan, do they count header updates towards your d/l
limits. I looked at their web site but couldn't find any info on this
subject. I am currently looking for a new news server as my claranews
account is nearly up for renewal. Given the state they have been in for the
last few weeks/months I don't think that they are a viable option anymore.

TIA
