Suitable server for DHCP service

Hi everybody,

We currently run our DHCP server on a clustered Windows 2000 server. Next
month we move to a new SAN which means I need to move the DHCP service. I've
read the documentation and am happy with th process of moving all my scopes
to another server. What I need is some advice on which server to move to.

We are a two site AD linked by a 100Mb private fibre connection. All
computers use the clustered DHCP server in Site 1. Site 1 and 2 have around a
450/350 computer mix. I was considering moving the DHCP service to one of the
two Domain Controllers in Site 1. The DC I have in mind is a single Pentium 4
Xeon 3.06GHz (hyperthreaded) with 2GB of RAM and a single 36GB mirrored
partition. It is also the RID and Infrastructure Master for the domain. Would
there be a huge problem with using this server?

Thanks in advance,

Steve.

I usually run DNS/DHCP and WINS all on the DC. If there is more than one DC
I run all of them on each. Each machine is configured the same except for
the DHCP Exclusions which keep DHCP from giving out duplicate addresses.
The WINS are Push/Pull Partners of each other.

Hi Philip,

Thanks for the response. From what you say it sounds like I should be OK.

Best wishes,
Steve
