Hi,

Can I have some suggestions on the best firewall software (free or
shareware) for Linux installation? I am using SuSE 9.3. The firewall that
comes with SuSE is very hard to configure, having me rethink for a better
solution - for e.g., I am unable to configure it to allow MySQL admin port
3309 to be opened up for IP addresses in the range 192.168.0.2 -
192.168.0.10.

I'm sure there are better implementation of firewall softwares out there
that are friendlier and robust.

Thanks
Angus

Hi,

Create your own with iptables firewall. If you aren't experienced in
iptables and you want to change the suse standarad firewall. It's
better to start with an own one.
# man iptables
should show up, what you want.

hi,

man *whatever* is the most stupid answer i ever heard aka read about
....

give am man whithout a driver s licence a car and tell him: "read the
f*** manual" aka

man driving-a-car - ya know what i mean...? ;-)

but I agree with hakim - i never get far on linux whilst working with
suse. go off the beaten track, iptables is NOT that hard to learn, and
you ´ll get a far more reliable and scalable system compared to the
suse-"I´ll-do-everything-for-you"-firewall-stuff....

greetings

What is this...

If he is interested in a complete solution he can ask in this thread
and I will tell him, but first I try to involve the people themself. So
they learn...

Actually he needs a very simple IPtables rule set which he will find in
any iptables howto on the first few pages.

AND did you give him a answer more in detail? I can't see it.

So please don't start to talk such stupid stuff, like 'is the most
stupid answer'

Thank you

Achim
