Hi

Subject says most of it.

Have need for a 8 mile squirt with another AP serving local customers at
the other end. This end will also have an AP serving local customers.

What can I do here? I currently have a Proxim-4000 which says that the
802.11a side can be used for backhaul; can that be what is used for the
squirt with directional antennas pointing at each other?

Do I need to have seperate AP/bridges at the other end? This end? What
do you suggest?

thanks

tod

I have different hardware but similar situation. I did it with 4 APs.
One for local customers, another for local backhaul, third for remote
backhaul (in client bridge mode) and fourth as the remote AP for those
clients. Different equipment makers build in different specs. Mine are
smartBridges airPointPro Outdoor. I could have cut it down to three APs
and just had the remote backhaul picking up off of the local AP, but I
wanted to avoid overloading the local AP. And this way, my local AP has
an omni antenna, local backhaul and remote backhaul have 19dbi panels
(I'm not at 5 miles, more like 2 miles) and a 180* sector antenna on the
remote AP.
